12 of our 6th year students recently carried out their 6th year geographical field investigation. They, along with Ms. O’ Connor and Mr. Maher, went to a river site near Crossabeg, Co. Wexford and carried out several experiments on a meander. The experiments included measuring the Velocity of the inside and outside bend in the river, determining the Cross Sectional Area of the river and examining the Sinuosity of the river. The students then used all of these experiments combined to determine whether or not the site chosen was a meander. A great day out in the field was had by all. The geographical investigation is worth 20% of the overall marks of the Leaving Certificate exam.
