Coláiste an Átha recently competed in the Co Vocational School annual athletics meeting. We were well represented with over 70 students taking part. In the junior section we were narrowly beaten for the O’Dwyer Cup into second place by Bridgetown College by a margin of 4 points. The nine schools present on the day were Coláiste Abbain Adamstown, Bridgetown College, and Bunclody Vocational College, Coláiste an Átha Kilmuckridge, Creagh College Gorey, Enniscorthy Vocational College, Ramsgrange Community School, New Ross Vocational College and Selskar College Wexford.
We also finished second in the overall event which considering the size of our school is a fantastic achievement. Bridgetown College were deservedly the overall winners of the event. Ramsgrange finished third and had to relinquish the cup back to Bridgetown having being last year’s winners!
The new tartan track in Enniscorthy was the venue for the event; it was the first time that the meet was hosted on the state of the art facilities. Eight lanes meant that timetable was adhered to and the jumping and throwing events were a joy to watch. .While all our students did us proud on the day we have to give kudos to Blanaid Fogarty who was outstanding in her events winning three gold medals, John O’Toole was also in great form and tagged two golds and two silvers medals. Both students are fine athletes and added considerably to our points tally , overall great day out. Thanks to Mr Breen PE for all his hard work and Ms Waldron who was the events coordinator on the day and did a great job. If anyone would like to see the results please see sports notice board in main school or in the gym.
Heads up for the Wexford Schools Cross Country which will be hosted, for the second year, following the great success last year . the event is scheduled for Wednesday 25th November in JFK Park New Ross and is open to all schools in Wexford . Watch out Bridgetown here we come !
