At 2:25 on Friday the 5th of December 2014 fifth and sixth year students of Coláiste an Átha attended a talk on mental health and suicide awareness given by Elma Walsh, mother of the late Donal Walsh and founder of the #LiveLife Foundation, which provides facilities for terminally ill teenagers in hospitals and spreads Donal’s message of preventing suicide. The 5th year students had previously watched Donal’s documentary as a group on the RTÉ Player. The deep-hitting footage of Donal’s final months and his message of how precious life is went straight to heart with the students and gave us a great uplift as a class. I think it’s safe to say that everyone present went home and considered how fortunate they are to be simply living their life.
The talk was highly inspirational, emotional and motivating also. Ms. Walsh showed us a short video about Donal and proceeded to talk about the foundation, preventing suicide, and Donal’s last span on earth. A question and answer session followed giving students a chance to receive any answers they needed on any of the topics of discussion. The experience was incredible and very moving. The work the foundation does is wonderful and heart warming and donations can be made atdonalwalshlivelife.org/?page_id=114
