As part of our enterprise module in Transition Year, we set up our own mini companies. My mini company was called Bubbles Cosmetics. Harry Ellix, Shay Hayes, Niamh Kavanagh and I were the members of the company. We made homemade bath bombs and bath salts. We started by preparing for the TY Christmas market in our school. To set up for the market, we advertised, made posters, signs, and packaging and made our product. We sold very successfully at the schools market and at the Christmas market in Boolavogue. We then presented our product in front of the enterprise judge Eimear Doyle in our school. Our group, proceeded onto the shortlist of the overall senior category of the competition, Just A Rack ( Brona Kirwan, Tasha Burke, John McDonnell, Eoin Murphy & Dylan McLoughlin) proceeded in the enviormental category and Goods N Stof ( Gregory Redmond & Dara Durant) proceeded in the merit category. All three groups would attend the awards night in Whites Hotel in Wexford.
Bubbles Cosmetics then had a second interview to earn our place in the senior category. Eimear and two other judges came to the school and we did a PowerPoint presentation, displayed of our product and demonstrated how it is produced and how it is used. We were then asked a few questions concerning our product and the judging was over. The next day we heard the news that we made the final 12. We were then brought to the county council building in Wexford and filmed a short video about our product to be shown at the awards night. We then produced a wooden display board, posters, and display ideas for the night. We also produced more of our product to sell on the night.
The night of the awards came and we travelled down early to set up our stall. We spoke to investors, judges, and other people about our product throughout the evening. At 7 o’clock, we went into the main hall and the award began. In the enviormental category, Just A Rack were beaten to the award by a company form Ramsgrange who sold Christmas trees, Goods N Stof were unfortunate to not receive an award and however Bubbles Cosmetics did not receive the senior category award (which went to Knock On Wood from St. Peters) we did win a merit award which is a great achievement considering it’s the school’s first attempt at the idea of enterprise and mini companies.
