Hi! My name is Blánaid Fogarty and I am currently an active Transition Year student. I find the year both interesting and enjoyable as I make new friends, learn new skills and improve on my own skills.

Throughout the TY course, we have participated in many outings already, such as on the 10th of October when selected students to travel along with teachers to the Enniscorthy Sports Hub for our annual athletic Vocational competition. Students from all years competed and qualified through in-school PE competitions.

We departed from Coláiste an Átha at 9:00am on Tuesday morning. Every student was eager to represent their school and to achieve a medal in their schools name. Some of the most popular events students took part in would have to include the sprints, such as the 100m and the 200m, high jump and long jump. At the end of the day, all students that attended the competition stood with their schools to hear the overall winners of the day. Our school, Coláiste an Átha, placed second overall, losing our first place title from later to Bridgetown, missing out by a total of 3 points.

The most successful event from our school overall would have to be the relays,  As many students worked well as part of team and contributed to the best of their ability. In this event there was a few medals won by the school. The most outstanding relay performances  came from the Senior Girls, ran by Ciara Doyle, Sarah Walsh, Lucy Whelan and Aisling Whelan, and the Intermediate girls, ran by Emma Cowan, Tara O’Connor , Moya Fortune and myself. We secured gold in both races. Also the Intermediate Boys’ relay team (Cormac Hammel, Declan Sinnott, Jason Connolly and John O’ Toole). They ran a fantastic race achieving silver in their event.

Overall, from my point of view, the day was a success for all schools ad students and a very enjoyable day aswell.
