I attended last year’s Comhairle Na nÓg Annual General Meeting. After a day of work shops and debating I was chosen to become a member of  Comhairle Na nÓg for the next two years. I am now in my second year of being a Comhairle member and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

For this year’s AGM, myself and three of my class mates travelled to wexford county council County Hall to attend the meeting. Upon arrival we signed in and took our seats. We were welcomed by councillor Paddy Kavanagh, chairman of Wexford County Council and Kieron Donohoe, CEO of FDYS. The first workshop was introduced by a comhairle member. This workshop was to do with drug and alcohol use in wexford. The students worked together and gave feedback to the comhairle members on the topic.

Workshop two was split into three topics, each group had to chose the topic which they thought was most important among young people in wexford and this topic would be  Comhairle Na nÓg’s  next project. The topic of mental health was chosen as this year’s project. Students were then informed on how to nominate themselves to become a comhairle member and a draw took place. Two of our students, Leah Kehoe and Aidan McConnell, we’re both chosen as new comhairle members. The AGM ended with feedback from workshop 2. An enjoyable day was had by all who attended the meeting!
