It was the 22nd of January and the u-17 boys had a semi-final match against Arklow Gaelscoil in Arklow. The soccer lads left the school at 8:45 and they arrived in Arklow at 9:45 and the lads when down to the pitch for a bit before the game just to see how the pitch was. At 10:50 the boys got ready for the big game ahead of them. After all the lads got ready the headed down to the pitch to get some practice in before the game. It turned 11:30 and the match was underway Coláiste An Átha where facing the sun in the 1st half and the lads got an early shock as the Arklow lads got down the left wing and hit the post luckily nothing came of it. We were getting dominated in the 1st half we had a few chances on their goal and our goal but both keepers were able to keep the ball out.
The 2nd half came and the opposition were against the sun and we were starting to knock the ball around really well and we were getting more and more chance. The ball came in from the Arklow lads and it fell to their striker and he went to chip the keeper and it just went wide of the post, The midfield of Jamie Dempsey Doyle, Jake Nobbs, Josh Lawlor,Shane Cahill and Harry Ellix where starting to pass the ball around eachother very nicely. Both teams were still getting shots at goal but no goals yet. With 10 minutes remaining Eoin Murphy charged down an Arklow player and stole the ball and played it to Liam Walsh who had just been on the pitch for a few minutes played a 1st time pass over the top to Harry Ellix who chipped the keeper from 16 yards out and the team were delighted. With the last 10 minutes still to play the Coláiste An Átha lads decided to play very defensive to hold on to this 1-0 lead. After finally clearing the ball out of our half the referee blew the full-time whistle. The lads were now in the final which will be played on the 27th of January.
