On Thursday the 26th of January , TYs and LCAs went on a trip in the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. The play was based on the novel The Spinning Heart by Donal Ryan which was the book we read in TY. The story is about a small town in Limerick.  The story centres around a man called Bobby Mahon who is waiting for his father to die but as the story goes on his father is murdered. Bobby is blamed for killing his father when Bobby found him lying on the floor with a piece of wood with blood covering the floor everybody could only blamed Bobby for this.

The Smock Alley was a great place before you get into the theatre its a very old and really nice has lots of bricks showing the what bricks they had from lots of years ago.  The seats go around in a semi circle and in the middle was the stage it was very good and a nice place.

I didn’t think I would enjoy this play but it was very interesting and extremely helpful when remembering it more than the novel would because reading wouldn’t be as good as the play.

I would recommend this to anyone who is studying The Spinning Heart and also to anybody because it’s a great story and tells you a lot about Ireland after the recession. This could come up for any level of Leaving Cert which is very good because it’s a really exciting book and play.
