Thank you for choosing Coláiste an Átha for your child’s secondary education and we look forward to meeting with you and your child at the Enrolment Night. Just a few points of information for your attention for Enrolment Night:

Enrolment Times:

For your convenience we have allocated times for you and your child for enrolment as follows:

6.30 p.m. – 6.45 p.m. – Kilmuckridge, Kilnamanagh, Boolavogue and Blackwater National Schools

6.45 p.m. – 7.30 p.m. – Ballaghkeene, Oulart, Ballygarrett and Monamolin National Schools

7.30 p.m. – 8 p.m.     – For enrolments from other than the above schools.                                               

However, should these times not suit please attend at your convenience. If you cannot make the Enrolment Night please contact the college for an alternative appointment.

Note: your child must attend with you at enrolment.

Enrolment Form:

Please contact the school at 053 91 30169 for the Enrolment Pack. You will require your child’s PPS Number for the enrolment form. You also require a copy of your child’s Birth or Baptismal Certificate. We can copy this for you if necessary.

‘Subject Choice’ Options Sheet:

Please ensure that your child completes the ‘Subject Choice’ Options Sheet in this pack and hands it in with the enrolment form. This is an important document as it helps us to build the option blocks for September. We also refer to this document in the event that there are too many students wishing to do a subject.

Psychological Report:

If your child has a Psychological Report please bring same to the College. We will photocopy the report and give you back your original. The report must be no more than two years old – i.e. 2014 /2015.

Assessment Tests:

Assessment tests for enrolled pupils will take place on in January 2016. We will write to you well in advance of the date. It will take place on a Saturday morning from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. Pens, paper and a light snack will be provided.

School Transport:

The Post Primary School Transport scheme is administered by Bus Eireann. Please contact School Transport Section, Plunkett Station, Waterford at your earliest convenience. Applications must usually be submitted before the end of April. Phone 051-873401 or e-mail schools.waterford@buseireann.ie. The Department of Education and Skills School Transport Section can be contacted by phone on 057-9324300 or e-mail school.transport @education.gov.ie. We have enclosed an information leaflet for your information.

 

School Jacket:

Fittings for the school jacket will take place in August 2016. We will inform you of the date for jacket fittings at the Information Evening for first year parents in May. The school jacket costs €45.00 and is supplied by Mr Liam Spratt.

Student Services Contribution:

€50.00 Student Services Contribution can be paid on Enrolment Night, on the Assessment day in January or in September 2016. Please put it in an envelope with your name and your child’s name on it. If you require a receipt, please put a note in the envelope with the money.

Meetings with Parents/Guardians

Our Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator Ms Carmel Maguire will be contacting parents / guardians of each child who enrols in the coming months. This will be a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s needs, strengths and qualities and answer any concerns or queries you may have.

 

Information Night for Parents / Guardians:

There will also be an information night for parents / guardians of incoming first years in late May / early June. A guest speaker, organised by the Parent’s Association, attends to speak about the transition for you and your child from primary to secondary school. A letter of invitation will be sent to you well in advance.

 

“Moving Up”:

For your information: A book called “Moving Up” is available from the National Parents Council website www.npc.ie This book provides parents with advice and information about the transition from Primary to Post Primary School.
